                                                    Language and Literacy

 

Writing:

  • Handwriting - Continue to write letters properly.
  • Writing sentences - tell someone in your family what you want to write and they will write this for you to copy.

 

  • Activities:
    • Write j,v,w letters on the worksheets (3).
    • Play "Sky Writer" and "Letter Formation" on "topmarks.co.uk".
    • Writing - write 1 sentence about your favourite weather - (*Remember capital letters / full stops / finger spaces). 

 

Phonics:

 

  • Activities:
    • Use sound cards in orange folders to recognise s,a,t,p,i,n,c,k,e,h,r,m,d,g,l,o,b,u,f letters / sounds - (Revision).
    • Use sound cards in orange folders to recognise j,v,w letters / sounds - practise daily.
    • Listen to "topmarks.co.uk" - "Phonics Songs" for j,v,w sounds.
    • Watch the fun videos on "BBC Bitesize" "Key Stage 1 - English - Phonics - Phase 2 Phonics" - for j,v,w sounds.
    • Look for items around your home beginning with j,v,w sounds.
    • Cut out pictures of things beginning with j,v,w sounds and stick on different pages.
    • Complete j,v,w phonics worksheets (3) below.
    • Play "Phonics Bloom" - (Phase 2) - "Flashcards" on "topmarks.co.uk"
    • Complete "I Spy" phonics worksheet - revision of group 4 sounds.
    • Test your skills on "IXL English" - (Year 1) - skills - "Alphabet"

 

 

Talking and Listening:

  • Children continue to talk about their experiences e.g family events.
  • Talk about their favourite weather.
  • Continue to listen to and join in with a range of stories, poems and rhymes on "topmarks.co.uk" - "Storyteller Videos" and "Cbeebies" - "Stories".
  • Talk about stories read.
  • Continue to play "Phonics Bloom" - (Phase 1) - "Match Sounds" on "topmarks.co.uk" to improve listening skills.

 

Reading:

 

  • Continue learning all the words in your homework folder. Make sentences using these and read.
  • Please continue to enjoy stories with family members at home, on the "CBeebies" website and continue to download eBooks and audio books from "NI libraries" and "Oxford Owl". Read from the free "eBook Library" on "Oxford Owl" in this order - (Levels - "Book Band Levels" - Lilac - (picture story books) - Pink (books with simple text / words) or "Oxford Levels" - (1) - (picture story books) - (1+)  - (books with simple text / words).

 

(* yes Please continue to practise all the Literacy skills you have learned in Primary 1, on "IXL English" - (Reception) - working through all the 48 skills at your own pace.)

 

 

                                             Mathematics and Numeracy:

 

I hope that you have completed all the work in your "New Heinemann Mathematics - Numbers To 10" workbook,  "All About Numbers 0 - 10" booklet and also in your classwork book. You can continue to practise writing numbers using "Letter Formation" on "topmarks.co.uk" - "https://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/activities/letterformation/(number formation).

Further revision work on numbers 1 - 10 can be completed this week in "Numbers 0 - 10 Revision Workbook" - continue working through this at your own pace.

 

 Number / Mental Maths:

  • Count 1-10 - lots of counting practice to 5 /10 "IXL Maths" - (Reception) - "Count to 5" and "Count to 10" and "Helicopter Rescue" on "topmarks.co.uk".
  • Revision - Count, write and recognise numbers 1-10. Complete activities in "Numbers 0 - 10 Revision Workbook" - working at your own pace.
  • Repeat number rhymes learned in school. (numbers 1-10).
  • "Active Learn" tasks.

 

 

 

Measures: - (Length)

  • Watch "BBC Bitesize" - Primary - Northern Ireland - Foundation Stage - Mathematics and Numeracy - Measurements - "Measuring".
  • Compare objects using appropriate "measure" language - "long" / "short" / "tall" / "thick" / "thin" / "large" / "small" /"wide" / "narrow".
  • Extend language - "longer" / "shorter" / "taller" / "thicker" / "thinner" / "larger" / "smaller" etc.
  • Complete "Measure" worksheets and activities below (11) - work on at these at your own pace. 
  • Play "Let's Compare" on "topmarks.co.uk"
  • Test your skills further on "IXL Maths" - (Reception) "Size" - "Long and Short", "Tall and Short" and "Wide and Narrow".
  • Use pencils to measure your table at home and shoes to measure a door etc.

 

 

 

 

Data Handling:

  • Count the different weather symbols on the page and colour the correct number of boxes - to create a "Block Graph".
  • Talk about your "findings" - "Which weather symbol did you find most / least of?" etc
